Views of Music.

We've finally been provided with the music we can use in our music videos, the list consists of 26 different songs, some by the same artist/genre, and some not.
I had heard of some of the songs provided before and bands, but overall I think it was a mixture of unknowns.

As a group- Liam, Sophie and I went through the list song by song and listened all the way through whilst jotting down notes in the meantime.

Here's what our thoughts for the videos we jotted down:

SUMMERTIME CLOTHES- ANIMAL COLLECTIVE
A character running around with a techno theme, sort of space invaders type of theme, although the song itself is very long and repetitive.

SHADOWS- AU REVOIR SIMONE
The song itself is my favourite from the list and even though it is the one everyone wants to use, I am still hoping to be able to pitch for this song with a stop motion type movement video with a female lead wondering around a woodland type area/Alice in Wonderland style or just like a disorinated fairytale.

STRANGE TIMES- THE BLACK KEYS
This song was very indie, so we thought a band would be needed for the video.
We also thought it reminded us of the Franz Ferdinand video for Take Me Out, with a news print style video, black and white.

MARGARITA- BRAKES
This song in general, just seemed like a joke, but alas we had to think of ideas.
It was also quite another indie style song, but our ideas wouldn't be quite suitable, pizza with policemen with big moustaches? Don't think so...

MANSION IN THE SKY- THE BRIANJONESTOWN MASSACRE
When I first heard this song, I immediately thought of Eagles- Hotel California with a Johnny Cash feel.
We thought also that it would be an old film with a western theme.

FEEL THE LOVE- CUT COPY
None of our group was too keen of this song, but obviously we still need to write down ideas!
We thought of bubbles being in a field with the band in the middle with dancers around them, then ending on a night sky.

NUMBER ONE ENEMY- DAISY DARES YOU
This song was very different from the others, it reminded us all of Avril Lavigne, and thought of the idea of being set in a school with preps and a rock chick lead with a random rapper in the middle.
Pink costumes were a must.
The video that came in my mind for it is Amy Studt- Misfit which is also set in a school.

LETS GO SURFING- THE DRUMS
My personal opinion? I hated this song.
The video that came in mind would obviously have a band with their friends on a beach in the sun, with a very repetitive song.

WICKED LITTLE GIRLS- ESTHERO
At first, I don't think any of us were too keen on this song, but after awhile we started to like it and think of good concepts for a video.
1920's theme in a posh party location, a girl band style video with lots of makeup- Chicago style.
The song itself sounded like The Pussycat Dolls.

1234- FEIST
This song has always annoyed me, but we still came up with ideas.
The song itself is acoustic, so we thought obviously the lead would have her guitar in a long flowing summer dress, set in the summer, very light and peaceful with flowers, also images matching the lyrics.

LIE- JAZZANOVA
This song first reminded Liam of Over the Hedge and we all agreed with Robbie Williams and Will Young with lots of instruments.
We didn't find a concept for this.

YOU'VE NO CLUE DO YOU- KING CRESOTE
The lyrics seem to be Cluedo themed so we thought run that theme through our idea.

LOVESICK- LINDSTROM & CHRISTABELLE
We all seemed to like this song but find it inpossible to come up with a sensible idea which doesn't involve a piano in an urban street.
Liam also said it sounds like an old Nintendo 64 game.

I'M GOOD, I'M GONE- LYKKE LI
The beginning of the song reminded both me and Liam of Eels- The Mighty Boosh, as soon as a woman started singing I thought more Robots In Disguise, but not as good as them (obviously).
We thought a very techno style theme, new wave perhaps? With lots of neons.

EVERYWHERE- MICHELLE BRANCH
This song bugged me so much! I recognized it from some sort of teen movie and after later research found out it was used for American Pie 2.
The song itself is very poppy and Avril-y again, reminded me and Liam a lot of Camp Rock, disney style rock, Hannah Montana type.
BREATHE- MICHELLE BRANCH
Same artist as above, so I joint the two.
Again, basically the same as above, except it has more of an American/Canadian feel to it.

WHAT DID HE SAY- NITE JEWEL
The beginning sounds like The Men in Black- period.
The song sounded like it was from the nineties, I felt like an old skool rap video with cars doing that jumpy thing.
The song seems very dreamy, and Sophie says it reminds her a lot of Calvin Harris.
